Hoops for Hearing Basketball Tournament

[Los Angeles, California, February 21st, 2020]

Delta Zeta Theta Rho raised money for The Starkey Hearing Foundation at their annual Hoops For Hearing event held on the Cal State Los Angeles campus. Starkey, Delta Zeta’s National philanthropy, has provided hearing services to over 1.5 million people all over the world. The foundation holds an extra special place in a few of our sisters’ hearts who have also gone on mission trips to provide the gift of hearing outside of the country.

Hoops for Hearing is an annual event where the chapter sells tickets for a bracket style basketball tournament with the help of other organizations on campus and friends or family. This year, the event brought more than a hundred people together in the CSULA gymnasium where friendly competitive spirit was enjoyed by all. Delta Zeta’s fundraiser made $1,258 in ticket sales and donations.

“I thought hoops was very successful because we were able to have it in our own school gym and got a lot of support from campus organizations... I thought that everyone enjoyed the night and had fun watching the game. I appreciate everyone that helped put it together and for the teams that participated,” shared Vice President of Philanthropy, Zoet Marie, who was excited about the outcome of the first event she planned for the chapter in 2020.

We’d like to give a special thank you to all of the teams who participated: Phi Sigma Kappa, Sigma Pi, Sigma Nu, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Beta Gamma Nu, Fullsends, Takuaches, Bomb Squad, and Mambacitas.
