A Personal Philanthropy Becomes Social Media Driven-Campaign for Theta Rho (California State Univers

The Theta Rho Chapter at California State University/Los Angeles raised over $400 in five days during a social media campaign, “Give Me 5 in 5 Days”, to fund community outreach programs provided by the Los Angeles Dream Center. For nearly a decade, Theta Rho member Kimsly Quezada has poured her heart into volunteering at the Los Angeles Dream Center. The safe place, which has been committed to the Los Angeles community for over 22 years, offers assistance to in-need government housing projects, houses families and emancipated youth at no charge, and provides rehabilitation to those affected by the addictions of substance abuse. "Helping others and volunteering has always been something dear to my heart. So, when joining Delta Zeta, I was instantly attracted to how much they care for others through philanthropy. Delta Zeta has given me the chance to introduce non-profit organizations to an amazing chapter like Theta Rho," says Kimsly Quezada.

From July 17 to midnight on July 21, the Theta Rho public relations committee used the chapter’s social media as a way to campaign for philanthropy funds toward the Dream Center. The chapter’s followers were encouraged to donate $5 and to share and post the campaign photos to their accounts to motivate even more awareness for the Los Angeles Dream Center .

Through the “Give Me 5 in 5 Days” campaign, Delta Zeta Theta Rho was able to widen its audience and engage those unaffiliated with greek organizations to support Delta Zeta and the Los Angeles Dream Center. The campaign also united our alumnae, actives, and fellow Delta Zeta chapters. Delta Zeta Theta Rho was incredibly grateful for the $50 dollar donation provided by the Delta Zeta Pi Kappa chapter at the University of Idaho.

This social media driven campaign proved that small gestures, like re-posting to increase awareness for a cause or forfeiting a daily Starbucks to donate $5, can make a game changing impact on the lives of others. The Theta Rho chapter would like to give praise and gratitude to the extended Theta Rho family for supporting and making this campaign possible. Special thank you to our Collegiate Chapter Director, Tania Roney, who helped with the creation and implementation of this campaign. Thank you to all the Pasadena Foothill alumnae who shared, re-posted and donated toward our campaign. And, once again, an enormous thank you to the Pi Kappa Chapter of the University of Idaho for being so generous and lending a hand to a fellow Delta Zeta chapter.
