The Delta Zeta Theta Rho Chapter at California State University, Los Angeles swept 6 awards during the campus’ Standards of Excellence award ceremony hosted by Fraternity and Sorority Life Coordinator, Michael Maksymowski, at the end of the 2016-2017 academic year.

One of over 25 sorority and fraternal organizations on the Cal State LA campus, Theta Rho knocked out the competition winning the most awards of the night. The chapter was 1 of 8 recipients gifted with the "Excellence in Civic Engagement" award; 1 of 11 groups and the only National Panhellenic Sorority recognized for the "Excellence in Social" award; 1 of 9 organizations presented with the "Excellence in Values and Standards" award; 1 of 11 recipients prized with the "Excellence Leadership Development" award; and 1 of 10 groups selected for the "Excellence Financial Obligations" award. Delta Zeta Theta Rho also took home the coveted “Overall Chapter Standards of Excellence” award and was 1 of the 9 organizations who were celebrated.

These recognitions were given to the chapter by the school for transcending the expectations for participation within the school community, implementing excellent and informative programs throughout the year, and showcasing a superb example of the campus’ standards. The chapter holds the highest GPA on campus, and has had much success with philanthropy events, Pie a DZ and Hike for Hearing this year.

“We’re very proud of what the chapter has accomplished,” reflected Theta Rho Chapter President, Cristabell Martinez. “These awards set a precedent for the chapter’s future success.”

In addition to chapter awards, selected individuals who have made great contributions to Greek Life and the CSULA community were honored at the event. For this, we are extremely proud of our sister, Mitzi "Faith" Gabriel, who received the "Spirit of Service" Award. Faith has served our community as the Vice President of Philanthropy for the local National Panhellenic Council at CSULA and was most recently elected to serve as NPC President. Other awards given that night were “Outstanding Greek Scholar” given to Sydney Washington, Delta Sigma Theta; “Outstanding Greek” awarded to Aton Molchanov, Sigma Alpha Epsilon; “Silent Award” presented to David Torres, Phi Sigma Kappa; and the “Service Project Award” given to Kappa Delta Chi for their Burrito Project.

The Delta Zeta Theta Rho chapter has big plans for the upcoming 2017-2018 academic year. With goals to continue to go above and beyond within their academics and philanthropy, Theta Rho is striving to maintain the Standards of Excellence titles that were awarded to them.
